The outdoors has always been a special place for me. Growing up going taking camping trips with my father, grandfather, uncles and cousins was a year round thing. Some of our camping and hiking spots have been passed down from generation to generation, for us it’s more than just another hobby. The memories and the life lessons I learned from each trip has always stuck with me. Ive been able to apply many of those lessons and teaching moments to my every day life, from perseverance, and resilience, to respect and appreciation for life and the outdoors. As I grew up I met a group of people in my current job who share the same interest. Going on trips with my brothers is an amazing experience on and off the trial. We built bonds and shared experiences that will never be forgotten. Being able to get away from the fast pace life and wake up next to a flowing river, the sun rising over the mountains, and truly experiencing nature is something that cannot be replicated any other way. The outdoors for us is more than a hobby, it’s a necessity.

Had a great time going up to the three ridges with Shawn. Shawn is a great guide whether you're an experienced or inexperienced hiker/camper. He provided good information on what to expect and what kinds of things to pack. Three ridges was definitely a tough hike but worth the views at the top. Shawn is easy going and flexible to whatever the conditions are. 10/10 would recommend peer adventures.

I recently got stationed in the Hampton Roads area as a geo-bachelor. Leaving your friends and family behind is not something you can prepare yourself for and I have found it to be mentally challenging. For the first time in my adult life I felt lost and have been struggling to find a sense of purpose. To cope, I would just hop on my motorcycle and go to every event in the area that I could find on social media in hopes that I would meet some like minded people. I found out about Peer Adventures after meeting Shawn at the 14th annual EXTORTION 17 memorial ride in Virginia Beach. When the opportunity came up to attend an event organized by Peer Adventures (Shawn) I signed up almost immediately. The event was a motorcycle trip to the season opener for the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, NC. We took back roads the entire way through small towns and farmland. The weather could not have been better, not too hot and not too cold. The Hurricanes also beat the Devils 6-3! The next day, again being great weather, we rode back taking a different route that took us through downtown Raleigh and included a stop at the Weldon Mills Distillery. This trip was very helpful to be able to relax, unwind and take my mind off everything going on in my life. I can't wait for the next adventure! I highly recommend Peer Adventures to anybody that is struggling with their mental health.       ~Adam   USCG
